Today was a very relaxing day. We took an hour vaporetto ride out to the island of Burano. It was a lovely sunny day and the lagoon was beautiful.
Aside from being know for its lace-making tradition, the island is also famous for its painted houses. The rows of homes are really spectacular.
We went into the Lace Museum and learned about how lace brought great wealth to the island around the end of the 15th century. The tradition was revived from 1872-1970 with the establishment of The Burano Lace School.
Today there is a small group of women who keep the tradition alive. One of them was making lace in the museum.
We took the water bus back to Piazza San Marco to walk to our hotel. The basilica was beautiful in the setting sun.

Another fabulous day.
