Day 5: From Tractors to Calder

I had forgotten how beautiful a place Lugano is. I get a smile on my face just walking outside the hotel.

We are loving where we are staying (Walter Au Lac). It has been owned by the same family since 1888 (four generations). Our room is two floors above the right hand umbrella with unobstructed views of the lake. We are finding it hard to leave our balcony--the views are breath taking.

First thing this morning when we were out on the balcony we were able to watch early birds arrive at the huts of the Cheese Festival to start sampling.

Then there was a parade of vintage tractors right in front of our hotel as part of the Autumn Festival.

Then they parked out front.

The Autumn Festival has brought tons of people to town.  Local artists were painting and future farmers showed the pumpkins they raised.

These guys had made and were serving bowls of different kinds of stews. Crazy!

We lucked out and caught the last day of a wonderful art exhibit: Calder Sculpting Time. There were over 30 masterworks on display. What a wonderful surprise.

When we were walking back to the hotel, we passed by this old church--Santa Maria deli Angioli. It has a famous Renaissance fresco on the wall. When we walked in there were musicians practicing. We came back in a bit and listened to a Baroque Chamber Music concert.  Another treat.

At the end of the day, we were catching some sun on the rooftop of our hotel. The light was perfect for this beautiful view of the lake.
