Day 7: Rainy Lugano

We woke up to rain. This is our view from the balcony. Not exactly the vacation weather we hoped for, but we were out the whole day and made the best of it.

We went back to the church of Santa Maria degli Angioli since the guy who painted all of the frescos (Liuni) was a student of Leonardo da Vinci. This is Liuni's Last Supper.

We got out of the rain with a small snack at a fun, hip art cafe very close to the main Art Museum where we saw the Calder exhibit.

There are so many cool things to look at wandering the city. Here's an old funicular that is no longer in use and lots of people walk the steps now. We've taken the new funicular quite a few times--very modern and easy to get to the upper town.

The main art museum has two other venues. We went to one fairly close to our hotel. They had an exhibit called Black or White where they displayed lots of work out from their permanent collection.

There were a few other things that were interesting including this wall sculpture and old photographs by Roberto Donetta who made photographs of daily life here around the turn of the century.

We did more city wandering. This galleria is very beautiful and across the street there are many shops that sell plants.

We had a very unfashionable early dinner in this restaurant on the main square. For a short period, we were the only people in the place--great time to get a photo.

The rain finally started letting up when we left the restaurant. Here we are back in the room on the balcony. Our last evening in Lugano.

Tomorrow we take the train to Venice.
