Day 13: Mercato Rialto and Palazzo Ducale

We stayed in Venice proper today. We took our usual form of transportation--the vaporetto.

We went to the Mercato Rialto area and enjoyed the open air market.

We then did a lot of wandering, not sure where we were going. Love this guy in a mask shop.

In the afternoon we went to the Palazzo Ducale. The ceilings were crazy ornate everywhere.

I'm definitely partial to the Venetian Lion.

Nice views from the palace.

After we walked across the Bridge of Sighs, we had trouble getting out of the prison. No kidding. We went through a couple of sections twice. This wouldn't have been so bad, but every time you moved you were either going up or down stairs. Happy to say we made it out.

After we made a short trip to the Correr Museum. Love this painting of Venice from 1586. Piazza San Marco looks pretty much the same today.

Also liked a series of plates like this.

Tomorrow is our last day in Venice.
